IN MEMORIAM

Latinas Contra Cancer dedicated it's 2006 Mother's Day Walk to singer-songwriter, Soraya, one of Latinas strongest, most vocal breast cancer advocates, who died in May 2006.

On May 10th, at age 37, Soraya died of a recurrence of breast cancer. Soraya spoke out often about self exams and annual screening. But few people are talking about inflammatory breast cancer, which isn't detected by a lump in the breast. Watch this graphic news story about an aggressive breast cancer few know about. The pictures are disturbing, but this is information every woman should have.

    Our Purpose

We're raising awareness about cancer in the Latino community, increasing access to quality care, decreasing mortality and improving the quality of the health care experience.

    Latinas Contra Cancer does this
by offering support services and resources for the Latino cancer patient and their family; collaborates with other small agencies to provide education and outreach services; and partners with health care institutions to bridge the gap through culturally competent outreach and medical care.
