Latinas Contra Cancer provides culturally and linguistically sensitive education and support that encourage informed decision making, patient empowerment, the diminishing of myths, and open dialogue free from shame and judgment. This will result in increased instances of early detection, screening, and testing. Our health education program not only provides access to services that might not otherwise be accessed, it also reduces health disparities that can have long-lasting repercussions.

Our Health Education events and webinars typically use interactive info tables or “Loteria” games to teach facts and dispel cancer myths or misinformation common in the Latiné community in the form of a fun and knowledgeable game. We aim to influence personal knowledge, behavior and attitudes toward cancer prevention, supporting prevention and early detection through culturally and linguistically appropriate education and navigation.

 

After attending one of our education events, participants will better understand how to lower their cancer risk and can ensure they are caught up on their screening per age guidelines and on top of their care. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our educational services moved to a virtual platform. We used the time to improve and expand our health education materials, and now offer multiple education topics. As of 2024, we frequently schedule in-person "Lotería" education events within the community, and each featuring a chance to win a gift card.
