Research on Latinas in Silicon Valley

In 2024, Latinas Contra Cancer, in partnership with the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, launched a pivotal research project aimed at understanding the status of Latinas in Silicon Valley, viewed through the lens of the Social Determinants of Health. This research explores key areas such as workforce participation, entrepreneurship, and health disparities, with the goal of shedding light on the experiences and challenges facing Latinas in the region.

This collaborative effort brings together LCC, the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, and respected researchers Dr. Vicky Gomez and Dr. Barbara Gomez-Aguinaga to investigate and document the social and economic conditions impacting the Latina community in Silicon Valley.

Methodology and Innovation

What sets this research apart is its application of the Social Determinants of Health framework, which examines how factors such as socioeconomic status, access to healthcare, and education shape the health and well-being of Latinas. By integrating both qualitative and quantitative approaches, the project will produce a comprehensive report that offers valuable insights into the barriers and opportunities Latinas face.

Quantitative Research

Analyzing public datasets from key sources to identify trends in the social, economic, and demographic factors affecting Latinas in the region.

Qualitative Research

Conducting interviews and focus groups with Latina leaders and community members to gather firsthand experiences and perspectives on the challenges they face.

This research will inform policymakers, community organizations, and advocates, providing them with a deeper understanding of the needs and experiences of Latinas in Silicon Valley. The findings will be shared using culturally responsive strategies to ensure accessibility and relevance to the community.
